Whimsical moment when a shark ‘falls’ at an 8-year-old boy as he climbs back aboard a boat with a coral trout on the Great Barrier Reef

  • Predator tried to get hold of the fish boy he killed
  • Boy is later shown unharmed from the close encounter

An eight-year-old boy appears to have been shockingly close to a shark when he climbed back onto a boat after spearfishing.

In a viral TikTok video – which has been questioned by some on social media – a man asks the boy, Manni, what he brought back from the ocean after fishing around Lady Musgrave Island, on Queensland’s central coast.

Manni, holding on to a ladder at the back of the boat, hoists a large fish onto the diving platform and begins to say something about a shark.

The shark then suddenly appears, lashing out to grab the fish from Manni’s hands, but eventually ends up in nothing with its head against the boy.

According to the creator of the video, Manni came out of the encounter unharmed.

“It just felt like a little bit, it hurt a little bit in the chest, but that’s it,” Manni shared. Nine News.

When asked if the random attack would stop him diving, Manni said, “I’m going back in.”

However, not everyone was convinced that the video was legit.

“Looks like the shark is dead and someone is pushing it on top of the child,” one skeptic wrote in a comment.

A sequel to the video shows Manni showing a fish he speared, though it looks different from the one he threw onto the boat earlier.

Certainly if he suffered any ill effects from the encounter with the shark, Manni doesn’t show them as he hoists a big fish with a wide grin.

However, the video maker is not very impressed.

“That’s nonsense, the worst fish in the ocean, why did you shoot it?” asks the man.

“Because it kept swimming towards me it didn’t stop. It was stupid, it was just stupid to keep swimming towards me like ‘come shoot me’ so I shot it,” Manni replies.

“You’re going to eat it yourself,” says the filmmaker.

In comments, he later revealed that the milkfish was given to a local resident.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to the creator for further comment.
