TRAFFIC ALERT: Interstate 24 closed for fatal shooting investigation, drivers report being stuck for more than 4 hours

Update, 11:22 p.m.: Drivers on the scene told Clarksville Now they were told they could be allowed to move around 11:45 pm.

A driver said the incident started at 6:15 pm, and he was stuck for more than five hours.

Update, 11:05 p.m.: TBI confirmed that one person was killed in the shooting.

Update, 10:25 p.m.: I-24 is closed in both directions between Exits 11 and 19. Westbound traffic is backed up from Exit 19 to Exit 24. Eastbound is backed up from Exit 11 to approximately mile marker 9.

Drivers said they were stuck in traffic for more than 3 1/2 hours and were not allowed to turn around. Clarksville Now has contacted THP, TBI, Clarksville Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for information on behalf of the drivers.

Update, 8:55 p.m.: I-24 westbound is closed at exit 19. Traffic is backed up until mile marker 21.

Update, 8:20 p.m.: The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting that happened on I-24 eastbound at milepost 19, according to news partner Clarksville Now. WKRN, Channel 2-Nashville.

Traffic is backed up after exit 8.

Update, 7:50 p.m.: Drivers are directed from I-24 to exit 11 and will return to exit 19, according to THP.

“This will be an extended closure due to an ongoing law enforcement investigation,” according to THP.

Eastbound traffic is now backed up from Exit 11 almost to Exit 8.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Interstate 24 eastbound has been closed at exit 11.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Clarksville Police closed the interstate at Exit 11 at the request of Robertson County and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, according to MCSO spokesman Sgt. Bishop Delaney.

This involves an incident that occurred outside of Montgomery County. “Law enforcement in our county only helps with traffic control on I-24,” Delaney said.

Traffic is being detoured from Highway 76 to Highway 41A.

At 7:45 p.m., traffic was backed up from Exit 11 to about mile marker 9, and from Exit 19 to about mile marker 15.
